  17. This is a DOS game and Does not run properly under Windows. To support
  18. SoundBlaster, a "BLASTER" environment variable must be defined in your
  19. 'Autoexec.bat' file.

  25. \\\ How To Play                                                    ///

  27. 'PAINTERS' is the simplest strategic action game you've ever played.
  28. The objective of the game is to paint over the field with your color
  29. as much as you can within a certain time period by moving a player.
  30. A player who painted the most will be a winner. There are five rounds
  31. for singles game. Four players can play together at a time!

  37. Sometimes you will see an icon appearing on the field. This is an item
  38. that will surely help you to win. There are four types of item as 
  39. follows:

  41. Watch       - stops other players for a while.
  42. Boots       - makes you run faster. You can keep them until you
  43.               collide with other players.
  44. Big Bomb    - You will see what happens...
  45. Small Bombs - You will see what happens...

  51. Player1 (Blue)   - Cursor Keys
  52. Player2 (Red)    - 'W', 'A', 'D', and 'S' (or 'X')
  53. Player3 (Yellow) - Mouse
  54. Player4 (Green)  - Joystick (If you do not have a joystick, Player4
  55.                    cannot be controlled by a human. Sorry.)

  59. \\\ Menu Screen                                                    ///

  61. After you have seen the title screen you will be presented with a menu
  62. on the screen. You can change options by clicking the menu buttons.

  64. --- Players ----------------------------------------------------------
  65. For each of four players you can choose either 'Human' or 'Auto'. If
  66. you choose 'Auto' then a computer will control the player.

  68. --- Doubles ----------------------------------------------------------
  69. You can choose the game to be either singles or doubles. If you choose
  70. doubles, Player1 (Blue) and Player4 (Green) will play against Player2
  71. (Red) and Player3 (Yellow). Which ever gets 3 points first (ie. wins 3
  72. rounds first) will be a winner team.

  74. --- Sound ------------------------------------------------------------
  75. If you have a SoundBlaster, choose sound to be ON which is initially
  76. OFF. If you don't have a SoundBlaster, do not turn on the sound
  77. otherwise the program will crash. I haven't tried on the SoundBlaster
  78. compatibles. (I will appreciate if you report me whether it worked on
  79. your sound card.)

  81. --- Joystick ---------------------------------------------------------
  82. If you have a joystick or joypad, you can choose Player4 to be 'Human'
  83. player. You can calibrate the joystick in the menu if necessary.
  84. (Again I will appreciate if you report me that your joystick doesn't
  85. work properly even after you calibrated.)

  91. This is a FREEWARE. You are welcome to distribute it to your friends
  92. without modification to any of the files. Although no money is

  94. suggestions. I would really appreciate your response. Also if you have
  95. found any bugs or problems with the game, please report me with your
  96. system configuration.
